Lauren Pizzi, (Massachusetts, b. 1993) received her B.F.A. in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA, in Spring 2015. She began oil painting when she was eleven years old with artist, Sue Gilkey, a lifelong friend and mentor. Lauren’s work investigates the unseen aspects of chronic medical conditions and making them visible.

From a young age, she had a deep admiration for the Impressionists. Later, she gravitated towards contemporary figurative realist artists and sought to add the narrative of sickness and health to the conversation. Her work and experience in the interior design field fueled her inspiration towards environment and patterns.

Chronic illness often embodies a repetitive cycle that can feel like an unending pattern. She conveys the perpetual nature of illness with an envelopment of backgrounds/attire and her figures. This immersion communicates that no matter where one is or what one is wearing, the ailment is there. She designs original repeating patterns featuring anatomical motifs and florals that are then fabricated into textiles and wallpapers.

Pizzi has exhibited in group shows and sold her work in Savannah, GA and Stowe, VT as well as internationally in Lacoste, France. She lives and works in Massachusetts.
